The Great British Bake Off

So the secret is finally out, I won The Great British Bake Off and it has been the most amazing past couple of days. I wanted to write a short post to say thank you for all the emails and support I have received over the last six weeks as the show has aired and especially over the last two days as the result was finally revealed. I have had to keep it a secret for so long that it was such a weight off my shoulders to finally be able to shout it from the rooftops. When I was watching the show even I felt nervous, actually I felt sick to my stomach. As I was watching I started noticing emails coming in and over the last 24 hours I have actually received so many it’s been so hard to keep up (most were just Twitter so didn’t need responding). Today my feet have barely touched the ground I started the day at 6.30am and was on way to the BBC for 7am where I had interviews with Gaby Roslin on Radio London, Chris Evans on Radio 2 then amazingly I even did a live tv interview on BBC Breakfast which turned out to be much less daunting then I expected. In total I think I did around 20 different interviews. Even though it was tiring it was amazing and fascinating and I still can’t quite believe it’s happening to me.

As for what’s next? I am hoping to take my passion and make it my career. I have had couple of offers to spend time in professional kitchens to gain some experience and I can’t wait to get stuck in, I also have my fingers crossed that some other opportunities come my way. I’m very hopeful that I will be able to finally fulfil my dreams and don’t worry I’ll keep you all updated.

For anyone who is looking for recipes from the show all the contestants have some in the book accompanying the series “The Great Book of British Baking” and there are also lots on the BBC Get Baking website

  1. I think we all knew from the start that you’d be a front-runner in the show. Your skill and adverturous passion showed in everything you made. You thoroughly deserve that trophie!

  2. Congratulations! I loved watching the show, perfect for a cake loving girl like me! My fingers are crossed that you will get a chance to go professional with the baking. The things you made looked simply delicious.

Now lay back, and enjoy your victory.

    ā€” Best, Ktinka

  3. Congrats and good luck for the future!
It was a great programme, much better than some of the others on at the moment, but then I do like a bit of baking, all those cakes and I’m in heaven!

  4. Yay! I’m so happy for you, Edd. It’s wonderful to see someone succeed in something they are so passionate in, especially when it’s clearly a result of a lot of hard work as well as talent. And nice when it’s someone so lovely and modest as well. It does seem that it was a really nice group overall (supporting my theory that people who love sweet stuff tend to be sweeter!).

I’m looking forward to seeing your career unfold and grow!

Can’t wait to see you and meet the others on Sunday to eat lots of chocolate!! šŸ™‚

  5. Well done, so well deserved!

  6. Congratulations Edd!
What an amazing programme, and of course brilliant outcome for you.
It must have been such a thrill to quit the bank!
    Hugs

  10. Edd – great to see dreams come true! I can’t believe it was Februrary when you first mentioned “going onto a baking show” and getting all nervous/excited.

You were head and shoulders above the rest, but with the amount of time and effort you put into your hobby (now career!) I don’t think you could have done anything less.

Really good luck with the future and look forward to seeing your book. Would you do your own photo’s too? Good at that as well!

  11. Congratulations Edd!
I really enjoyed every minute of this fantastic programme. I am a keen baker and have learnt a lot from the show. I now have a list of techniques I must improve on.
You deserved the win as you were so technically able. The italian meringue was going the extra mile in the final.
I wish you all the best with your career in cooking. It will be so so much better than a bank!

  12. Well done – I was rooting for you!

  13. Congratulations Edd – enjoy this moment, it is richly deserved. Thank you for inspiring us with you skill, charm and warmth. Continued good fortune.

  14. That’s a fabulous picture of you with Mel and Sue, it would have been worth going on the show for that alone!

Well done on your win, I was rooting for you all along and it was obvious very early on that you were going to be in it until the end. It was a lovely show and you must be very proud to have been part of it.

  15. Congratulations! Well done! Really looking forward to seeing what you’ll be doing next. So pleased for you Edd.

  16. Huge congratulations. Can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you. Yourself and all of the wonderful contestants have been a wonderful inspiration to all of us amateur bakers.

  17. What a well-deserved win. I thought you did a fabulous job in every episode, and am thrilled you got to take home the shiny trophy. Hope this is the start of big things in baking, rather than banking!

  18. I got the impression from Twitter that you have an offer from Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons! Hope I’m right.

  19. Congratulations. I loved the show and thought you shone as a true talent from the beginning. I hope there are many more offers (saw the one from Le Manoir you lucky thing!!) and look forward to reading about your adventures.

  20. Congrats Edd, I never had any doubt you would go far in this contest!!! Excited to see what the future holds!

  21. Fantastic!! I’ve been following your blog for a while, although I didn’t watch the TV series (I’m not a telly watcher, no time!)
But if your blog is anything to go by, then you are a very worthy champion. Congrats, and I hope it leads to bigger and better things for you.

  22. Hey Edd,
You deserve your success, your passion is clear to see (and infectious too!) and you’re a natural on TV. Hoping to see a lot more of you in the future.
    cheers!
    James, West London.

  23. Hey edd ! I was rooting for you all the way competition from the first week through to the end and when I heard your name announced as the winner I jumped out of my seat with a big beam on your face I wish I could try some of your baking :). I wish you every success in you future x

  25. I’m a little late, I’ve only just had chance to catch up, but congratulations. I was Team Edd from the get go!! All the best for the future and I look forward to a cake shop in Leeds bearing your name soon!

  26. D’oh, well I hadn’t made it to the final episode yet, but congratulations!! From what I had watched so far, your consistency and creativity seemed to have put you well on your way to winning. Lots of luck with whatever comes next šŸ™‚

  27. Congratulations! What great opportunities lie ahead of you. I knew I was in the presence of a baking extraordinaire from the word ‘macaron’.
Hope all your dreams come true.

  28. Hi Edd,
Am I right in thinking that I saw you on the last train from Leeds to Shipley last night? I wanted to say hello and congratulate you on your well deserved win,but wasn’t 100% certain it was you,but if it was, hello from Bingley.

  29. Many congratulations, Edd. Your victory had me applauding the TV and cheering. Your undoubted talent and invention were there for all to see (and savour!) from the get-go. Luck may have something to do with the outcome in these competitions but talent has a lot more to do with it. And I think that showed so obviously in your case. Whatever the future holds I hope you’ll have a great time meeting new folk and gaining more experience of what is clearly your passion and delight. It was great to share your journey to success throughout the series. Here’s to your future!

  30. me and my mum watched from the start and wanted you to win the whole way! congratulations! your baking was lush šŸ™‚ xx

  31. So many TV shows where the winner seems to be chosen randomly and finally a winner that actually deserves it! You were the best by far since day one: skilled, creative, original… simply the best!

  32. Congratulations, Edd. And I love that your next goal is to work as a pastry chef in an environment in which you can learn, as opposed to ‘write a book, have a telly show, become more famous.’ Skills-based careers are most fulfilling when you continue to learn and improve. You’re an excellent role model!

  33. Loved every minute. Well done. I’m seriously looking forward to seeing what you do next .. I think there’s lots more to come from you in the future.
